Moving the blog, yet again
Yeah, there I go again. This time, I've even upped it with a new domain! So all new entries would be posted here at http://www.atpeaz.com/
Oh, and I won't be renewing this domain once it expires, so I'll also be migrating some of the more popular posts over to the new site. That's it, at least for this site on this domain.

Baby Wish List - Updated 22 Dec 2009
UPDATED: 22 Dec 2009
It's been a while since this entry was posted and along the way, we've bought some items for our baby as there were pretty good deals around town. I've updated the list below to reflect what's already bought and what's no longer required.
----
Some friends have asked us what they should get us for the little one – and since they don’t want to name a budget, we’ve agreed to put up a wishlist from which they can pick their gifts.
The list things babies require these days seem endless, but here are some things we’ll need right off the bat. This list may get longer as we learn more about preparing for the new arrival.
If you’d like to put dibs on / ‘book’ an item, let us know, or comment in this note.
For those who don’t know where to get these things, or who’re not sure where to get the best price on them, we suggest you get in touch with Mr. Daniel Law, owner of Go Go Kids, who’s been giving us the best discounts so far, across the board.

1. Feeding Bottles
We’ve heard good things about MAM brand baby bottles, with removable bottoms for easier cleaning. The market leader Avent apparently has a known issue of leaking.
If getting the bottles singly, please get the 260 ml / 9 oz size, as we’ve been advised that babies outgrow the smaller size very quickly. Alternatively, you can get a ‘starter pack’ (pictured below).
IMPORTANT: Please make sure the bottles are BPA-free.

2. Bottle Steriliser Bought!
Surveying the market, we’ve concluded that the LINDAM Universal Steam Steriliser gives the best value for money.
Mr. Daniel Law informs us that his store will be offering it at a promotional price the week of 23 Nov, so drop him a message if you’re interested in this.

3. Nursing Pillow Thank you May!
Also known as the Cuddle-U. We’ve been advised to get this to spare mommy-to-be’s back. Looks something like the images below:

4. Musical Mobile Thanks to my OFM team!
No preference in brand or model. Battery-powered, with attractive shapes and colors when viewed from baby’s point-of-view i.e. bottom. Something like this:

5. Car Seat
After surveying what’s available in the market, we’ve decided that the Halford Premier Zeus Plus convertible car seat best suits our needs (and budget!).
If you’d like to get us this generous, much-appreciated gift, please do contact Mr. Daniel Law, who is giving us a very special price. Furthermore, he is offering to deliver the item to us at no additional cost!

6. Stroller
The good news is; we don’t want a Bugaboo. ^.^
What we would like is a Peg Perego Pliko P3 Classico, the single most popular stroller model in the Malaysian market. Check out the 2009 and 2010 fabrics; we’re having trouble choosing a color.
As with the car seat, if you’d like to get us this wonderful, very-much-appreciated gift, Mr. Daniel Law is offering us the best discount, so do contact him. Like the car seat, he’s willing to deliver the Pliko to us at no additional cost!

If none of the items listed here fit your tastes or your budget, cash in any amount, is always welcomed and appreciated!

Since we put up a want-list, here is a do-not-want-list:
1. Baby clothes. We've been blessed with relatives who've generously showered us with a complete wardrobe - and a highly fashionable one at that!
2. Toys
3. Gold. While we appreciate the thought and gesture, we feel that the current market for gold is somewhat prohibitive.
4. Gift Hampers
5. Disposable Diapers
6. Bedding / Cot bumper sets
Make your own Mobi Tags :)
Ever wanted your own Mobi tags that points to your own Facebook page, blog, or whatever URL you'd like, or even your vCard? Perhaps the Microsoft Tag might interest you. All you need is a Live ID to register for the (currently) free service and start making your own Mobi tags!
There are four types of tags that is supported on Microsoft Tag; URL, free text, vCard and dialer. It's very easy and self explanatory on how you can create the tags once your in the tags administration site, so I won't bother describing it here. But if you're wondering what these tags would look like, here's a sample of one that would point you to my Facebook profile page!
![]()
In case you're wondering what clients are available to 'scan' these tags? Well, fret not as there's a wide range of devices that's supported. Just browse to "http://gettag.mobi/" on your mobile device and you should get the right client to be downloaded. iPhones, Androids, Blackberries, Windows Mobiles, Symbians and regular J2ME phones are all supported, as long as it has a built-in camera to 'scan' these tags.
The other cool thing with Microsoft Tag service is that it also provides you with a report of tag 'scans' for your analysis. You can even set the start and end date for these tags, so it works very much like a banner advertisement. Useful if you're planning to use these tags to supplement to your print advertisement campaigns which usually have a campaign period. Think promotions, and contests.
But whether you're actually going to use it for an advertisement campaign or not, it's still just cool to have your own Mobi tag. So what are you waiting for, do make your own tags now! ![]()

Google Wave anyone?
I've just got my Google Wave account a couple of days back. But here's the thing, I was invited from another friend and therefore do not have any invites to send out! So, I can't add any participants to my Wave account which I would actually use Wave to collaborate with. Yes, Wave is definitely cool (or mind-boggling depending who you asked) for a collaborative platform, but if you don't have the ability to do so with people you know or want to collaborate with, well, it's just another technology platform... at least for me at this point in time.
So, here's to waiting for more invites to send out and perhaps even for it to be released to any Google Accounts (including Google Apps accounts like mine). So until then, here's to just asking anyone to add me to your Google Wave account if you have them. Mine is ngyinchern@googlewave. What's yours?

A late post from the iPhone
Well that's it!
Disable the annoying PC Speaker in Linux Mint, permanently.
Well, here's how you disable the extremely annoying PC Speaker, specifically on Linux Mint 7. I believe this should be somewhat similar with other flavours of Linux as well.
All you have to do is to edit the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file. Remember that you need root access to edit that file, so sudo your way there. And all you need to add at the bottom of the file is the following.
blacklist pcspkr
Restart your machine and that's it! You'll never hear the annoying PC speaker beeping anymore. And I seriously do wonder why it's not disabled right by default.

One Play-Asia coupon up for grabs! Expiring soon!
I've a Play-Asia coupon here which I don't think I'll be using. Unfortunately, I've procrastinated too long to post it here for someone to make use of it. Anyways, there is still 5 more days (from the time I'm posting this). So... first come first serve! ![]()
Solving the OpenSuse YAST not connecting to any repository problem
If you are new to OpenSuse and is wondering why the heck YaST just won't connect to any of the repositories, well, fret not. Yours truly have just installed OpenSuse 11.1 and was also trying to install the Nvidia drivers to enable Compiz and I was left wondering the whole night why YaST just won't connect to the repositories! I could browse the web via FireFox so the Internet connection is surely working. And so I stumbled... until I found the solution.
To resolve this, I just had to disable IPv6 support from YaST Control Centre -> Network Settings and just uncheck the box for IPv6 support. You'll need to restart your machine and once that's done, you'll be able to connect to any repository you want.
And I thought Yum was worse enough... LOL!
Back to Firefox...
Yup, I'm back to browsing on Firefox now. Google Chrome was fun, but I missed all those add-ons that Firefox has support for which makes it much more than just a simple browser. Don't get me wrong, Chrome was good. In fact, I liked it a lot. But apart from it's fast loading, very functional URL toolbar and wonderful interface, it's still quite unstable. It crashes on me recently and wouldn't run anymore. I just have no idea why. Reinstalling won't help and finally, I just gave up. I'm sure I'll be able to get it running again if I clean up the registry and all the residual files of the installation. But heck, since I missed all those Firefox add-ons, I figured I'd just go back to it then. And so, here I am back on Firefox.
And I must say, Firefox is great. And there are even addons and themes to make it look like Chrome too. LOL! The only thing I'll miss from Chrome now is the URL toolbar.
Fix: Getting Linksys WMP300N to work on Ubuntu 8.10
As I've moved the blog to a new domain, the new migrated location from this post is here at http://www.atpeaz.com/index.php/2010/fix-getting-linksys-wmp300n-to-work-on-ubuntu/. Please update any links where you know of. Thanks!
If you somehow happens to be having the Linksys WMP300N and Ubuntu 8.10, well, you'd probably be wondering how to get the wireless adapter working as I did! Well, fret not, I did find a guide that pretty much describes what you need to do to get it working.
But firstly, you'd need to get the latest drivers in order to get it working on the latest built of Ubuntu, 8.1 or Intrepid Ibex that is. I've basically downloaded the latest Linksys Windows XP drivers, extracted the two files that you'd need and uploaded it here.
Next, you'd need to get the Ndiswrapper utility installed on your machine. If you are still able to access the internet via ethernet LAN or perhaps a 3G-enabled phone, things would be a lot easier. All you'd need to do is to fire up a terminal and type
sudo apt-get install ndisgtkand it would install the ndiswrapper and all the required packages. If you can't connect, then you'd need to download the packages on another machine and copy it over and install it offline.
Once ndiswrapper is installed, the next steps is to install the driver!
